Are you an overweight man or woman diagnosed with type 2 diabetes?

Dr. Elizabeth Barrett-Connor, Dr. Thuy-Tien Dam, and their associates are conducting a clinical research study at the University of California, San Diego to determine whether an investigational drug called lorcaserin hydrochloride can help men and women with type 2 diabetes and obesity. All participants in the study will receive either placebo or lorcaserin and participate in a diet and exercise program designed specifically for this study. All study related procedures, tests and study drug will be provided at no cost to you.
You may qualify for the study if:
* You are a man or woman between the ages of 18 to 65 years old
* You have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes that is managed with oral diabetes medications
* Your body mass index (a number representing the relationship between weight and height associated with body fat and health risk) is equal to or greater than 27 and no more than 45
