Topic: Good Grief and Not So Good Grief

Date: Tuesday, January 12, 2010

Time: 12:00 noon - 1:00 p.m.

Location: Price Center West - Eleanor Roosevelt College Room

Losing someone or something you love is very painful. After a significant loss, you may experience all kinds of difficult and surprising emotions, such as shock, anger, and guilt. Sometimes it may feel like the sadness will never let up. While these feelings can be frightening and overwhelming, they are normal reactions to loss. Accepting them as part of the grieving process and allowing yourself to feel what you feel is necessary for healing.

Grief is a natural process set in motion following a tragic loss, a long journey of acceptance and healing, and yes, even joy again. Grief is not a medical condition and does not require treatment, but complications, such as prolonged acute grief and bereavement related major depression can be identified and should be treated.

In this presentation, you are invited to come and explore several effective coping strategies, learn the various stages for dealing with grief management and discover which symptoms of grief are normal, and which are warning signs.

Dr. Zisook believes that grief that which is expressed and experienced has a potential for a healthy healing. Dr. Sid Zisook will offer some practical insights on how daily life can return, that you can get through it, and come back in time to a happy and productive life. Dr. Zisook believes that there is no right or wrong way to grieve, but there are healthy ways to cope with the pain if given the proper tools and insight. You may contact Dr. Zisook's office via email: szisook@ucsd.edu.

Please join us for what promises to be a very informative presentation. This event's seating capacity will fill up fast and we will be able to confirm reservations for only a limited number of people. Light refreshments will be served. There will be a prize drawing at 12:00 noon.
