1. Effective Public Speaking and Presentations ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Effective Public Speaking and Presentations Intended for: Those who want to develop basic speaking skills for workplace presentations. You can increase your competence and comfort when giving presentations at work with the right tools, techniques and practice. Topics include:
* Managing nervousness You will learn in a stimulating, supportive and participatory environment. Note: This course is part of the Communication Curriculum. Required Preparation: You will be giving a 3-5 minute presentation in the afternoon. In order to use the time available at the workshop more efficiently, please bring a presentation you are working on or have given in the past. It's all right if the presentation is longer than 5 minutes. You can use 3-5 minutes of your presentation. Intermediate Microsoft Access 2007 Instructor: Lienhard Consulting Group Intended for: Those who have completed Introduction to Microsoft Access 2007 or have a strong working knowledge of the topics covered in that course. This course introduces the concept of working with multiple tables, addressing the Relationship feature and the various options available. Text boxes, Combo Boxes, List Boxes, Option Buttons and Check Boxes are incorporated into several exercises to demonstrate a variety of uses. The queries portion of the course covers how to create numeric formulas and concatenation formulas, and how to use the Action Queries Make Table, Append Table, Delete and Update. You will create a Master/Sub Form and discuss several properties associated with forms and their objects. Note: This course is part of the Information Technology curriculum. Also, please note that the Microsoft Access software is not available for the Macintosh platform. If you are interested in attending this course, you will need to use a windows machine during the training. Introduction to Microsoft Excel 2007 Intended for: Those who are novice users of the Microsoft Excel program. It is recommended that you complete Working with Windows XP or have a strong working knowledge of the topics covered in the course prior to participating in this course. This course introduces the basic concepts of how to use a spreadsheet. You will learn commonly used terminology and the standard features of Microsoft Excel 2007, including:
* Working with Cells You will learn how to write simple formulas using standard mathematical operators such as + (addition), - (subtraction), / (division), and * (multiplication). You will also be introduced to commonly used functions such as Sum, Average, Now and Today, and commands including Save/Save As, Open/Open Read Only/Open As Copy, Close/Close All. Working with Honor Students in UC System: A Continuing Discussion UCSD's colleges and academic departments define and serve "honors students" in a variety of ways. College and department academic advisors benefit from working together as colleagues to share best practices and articulate challenges in working with this particular student population. In this spirit of collaboration, we invite interested department and college advisors to attend this roundtable workshop in which we will share details of our respective programs and facilitate discussion to improve and enrich our services to honors students.
