You are invited and encouraged to participate in Thurgood Marshall College’s School Supply Drive for Gompers Preparatory Academy. Gompers teachers have shared a wish list of school supplies with us and we want to show our support for UC San Diego’s partnership with the school, the students, the teachers and the Chollas View community in southeast San Diego by providing an overflow of supplies for their academic year. As you unpack for the new school year, you may notice you have more supplies than you need. Or as you make a trip to buy supplies you are missing, maybe you see something on this wish list at the store. Whatever the situation, this is a great opportunity for you to start the year by making a meaningful impression through your actions and generosity. Don’t miss this opportunity to take practical and purposeful actions in addressing real needs for one of UC San Diego’s many communities. Donations will be presented to Gompers on behalf of UC San Diego and all who donate.

WISH LIST ITEMS INCLUDE: (rank ordered)

Students

1. Backpacks: black or navy blue, solid color

2. Binders with view finders (so a page can be inserted on the cover): black or white only; at least 1 1/2 inches thick (no other colors)3. 8 tab dividers

4. Paper: wide or college ruled
5. Erasers: separate from pencils; rectangle in size
6. Pens; blue or black
7. Individual pencil sharpeners
8. Pencils; regular and mechanical ones
9. Colored pencils
10. Highlighters
11. Protractors - plastic
12. Calculators
13. 3 hole puncher for binder - looks like a ruler; metal plate to punch holes

Teachers

1. Clipboards; 8 1/2 x 11 size
2. Dry Erase Markers; Expo brand (they're the best)
3. Mr. Sketch Chart Markers (found at Office Depot; Staples - they're the best)
4. White board cleaner
5. Electronic pencil sharpeners
6. Lap white boards; 8 1/2 x 11 size approx.
7. Graph paper
8. Anything to use for classroom incentives that has UCSD on it
9. Crayola brand markers for students in class
10. 2 pocket folders in multiple colors
11. Math games (Connect 4; dominoes; flash cards for multiplication & division)

You can find donation boxes in the TMC Admin Building and stop by the Giving Tree in the building to pick a reminder of a Wish List item. If you would prefer to make monetary donations, please feel free to do so. The TMC Dean’s Office will collect the monies and purchase requested wish list items. Please provide your money (cash or check payable “UC Regents”) to TMC Student Affairs office no later than Friday, October 6th.
