Patents and Patent Searching Intended for: UCSD faculty and staff who would like to learn about the patenting process and how to search for patents on the web. Learn how patents protect your intellectual property and what rights they confer. Find out about the basics of the patent application process, how to read and interpret patent documents, and why international patents matter. Learn what UCSD Technology Transfer & Intellectual Transfer Services (TTIPS) can do for inventors. Finally, learn how to search for patents using free web databases offered by the US Patent & Trademark Office, the European Patent Office, and more. Even if you don't have an invention on the drawing board, learn how to search patents for the valuable, cutting edge scientific and technical information they contain. Introduction to Microsoft Powerpoint 2007 Intended for: Those who wish to use this popular software to create visual aids to enhance their presentations, teaching, and public speaking. It is recommended that you complete Working with Windows XP or have a strong working knowledge of the topics covered in that course prior to attending this course. This course addresses basic terminology and a variety of concepts including:

Effective Business Writing Intended for: Those who are proficient in English grammar and spelling who would like to be able to compose more effective business documents. Writing that memo or letter doesn't have to be a chore. It can be an enjoyable and rewarding experience. This course is designed to improve writing skills by discussing and putting into practice useful business writing techniques and concepts, including composing email messages. Introduction to Photoshop CS3 Intended for: Those wishing to learn the basics of working with Photoshop. This course is an introduction to graphic design techniques and terminology using Photoshop. Topics and exercises include:
* Working with scanned images Other techniques that will be covered include using spatter paint, airbrush shapes, the Quick Selection tool and Magic Wand tool to adjust the appearance of an image.
