ArtPower! at UC San Diego Presents

JUPITER STRING QUARTET
Friday, January 28, 2011

Because it was the most prominent planet in the sky when the quartet formed, Jupiter became the namesake of this remarkable ensemble. Shortly after forming, the quartet received first prize in the Banff International String Quartet Competition and grand prize in the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition with their fine balance of exuberance and nuance. The ensemble’s technical prowess and intensity of spirit also contributed to their Avery Fisher Career Grant. Nelson Lee, violin; Megan Freivogel, violin; Liz Freivogel, viola; Daniel McDonough, cello.

PROGRAM Ludwig van Beethoven: String Quartet in A major, Op. 18, No. 5; Béla Bartók: String Quartet No. 3 in C sharp major, Sz. 85, BB 93; Ludwig van Beethoven: String Quartet No. 14 in C sharp minor, Op. 131
