MANAGING WORKPLACE CONFLICTS

Intended for: Employees interested in improving their ability to manage workplace conflict effectively.

You will:

* Expand your skills to recognize and address workplace conflicts
* Determine primary reasons and sources for workplace conflicts
* Gain understanding of a conflict resolution method

Conflict happens when what one person wants is incompatible with what another person wants. Considering the different sources of conflict such as needs, opinions, attitudes, expectations, experiences, responsibilities, values, and priorities. It is not a surprise that conflict is part of our workplace. In managing workplace conflict, we will identify the sources of conflict and review appropriate techniques for addressing conflict. This course is designed to provide the tools and techniques for managing workplace conflict.

PATENTS AND PATENT SEARCHING

Learn how patents protect your intellectual property and what rights they confer. Find out about the basics of the patent application process, how to read and interpret patent documents, and why international patents matter. Learn what UCSD Technology Transfer & Intellectual Transfer Services (TTIPS) can do for inventors. Finally, learn how to search for patents using free web databases offered by the US Patent & Trademark Office, the European Patent Office, and more. Even if you don't have an invention on the drawing board, learn how to search patents for the valuable, cutting edge scientific and technical information they contain.

CPR AND AED ADULT TRAINING - UCSD SAFETY OFFICERS

This American Red Cross course contains training for recognizing an emergency; preventing disease transmission; CPR and use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) on Adults; care for conscious and unconscious choking.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive an Adult CPR/AED certification from the American Red Cross.

CPR HEARTSAVER CARDIAC LIFE SUPPORT

Intended for: Non-medical individuals who seek to learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques.

This course is developed in accordance with American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines to train you in the basic skills required to respond effectively in a life threatening emergency situation.

CPR hands on skills are taught using a mannequin (manikin). Satisfactory completion of a skills performance test results in a certification card by the AHA.

The course also covers choking and warning signs of heart attacks and strokes.

DIVERSITY EDUCATION

Intended for: Those who are interested in increasing their awareness of diversity by exploring concepts of effective cross-cultural interaction. Working together and communicating effectively in our culturally diverse environment is essential to the mission of the university. Diversity Education is offered to increase awareness and appreciation of our workplace diversity and to support UCSD's Principles of Community.

This course introduces you to the cultural competence approach and provides you with the opportunity to apply it to work situations. The cultural competence approach is designed to broaden one's perspective of self and others, help individuals understand the role of cultural differences in the workplace and provide options for interacting effectively with others.

UCSD has worked collaboratively with The Robins Training and Organizational Development Group to develop this course based on the cultural competence approach.
