Many people casually say they are "addicted" to chocolate, food, an activity, or a person. Even if you are not actually addicted, most of us would benefit from learning recently-developed techniques for maintaining motivation, coping with desires and cravings, remembering we have choices, and managing our emotions. Dr. A. Thomas Horvath is an addiction psychologist with over 25 years of experience and the author of "Sex, Drugs, Gambling, & Chocolate: A Workbook for Overcoming Addictions." Come join us for this Learn-At-Lunch presentation to learn how the latest in addiction psychology can be used to improve anyone's habits.

Dr. Horvath was born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio. In 1975 he earned a B.A. in Liberal Arts from St. John's College in Annapolis, Maryland and in 1981 he earned his Ph.D. from the California School of Professional Psychology at the San Diego campus. From 1981 to 1984 he served as an active duty Navy Psychologist and in 1984 he entered full-time independent practice. Dr. Horvath founded Practical Recovery in 1985, which offers a self-empowering alternative to 12 step and disease-oriented addiction treatment. In 1990 he became a Board Certified clinical psychologist of the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP). Dr. Horvath founded the Pyrysys Psychology Group, Inc. in 2006, which offers a wide range of services, including Practical Recovery, Supporting ME (Moderate Eating), and the Center for Cognitive Therapy La Jolla. Currently the Practical Recovery system of services includes office-based services (Pyrysys), a sober living home (Reunion San Diego), and licensed residential treatment (the AToN Center).

Dr. Horvath has been active in professional psychology and behavioral health at the local, state, national, and international levels. His publications, media interviews, and presentations to professionals are helping to change how individuals, professionals, and societies understand addictive behavior.
