9TH ANNUAL UCSD BLACK HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATION
AND SCHOLARSHIP BRUNCH

The UJIMA Network and the 2011 Black History Month Planning Committee invite you to attend the Ninth Annual UCSD Black History Month Scholarship Brunch.

The event will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2011 from 10:30am -1:00pm at the UCSD Faculty Club with keynote speaker, Shirley Ann Jackson, Ph.D., President, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, the oldest technological university in the United States.

The Honorable Shirley Ann Jackson has held senior leadership positions in government, industry, research, and academe. A theoretical physicist, she was chairman of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (1995-1999). Currently she serves on the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, appointed by President Obama in 2009. She is a Vice Chairman of the Council on Competitiveness and co-chaired its Energy Security, Innovation and Sustainability initiative. Dr. Jackson holds a S.B. in physics and a Ph.D. in theoretical elementary particle physics, both from M.I.T, and recently featured on the nationally syndicated show The Take Away: The Take Away Broadcast.

Event highlights include a traditional soul food brunch, performances by local community choirs, and a silent auction with proceeds which directly benefit undergraduate scholarships. Additionally, outstanding African American undergraduate and graduate students will be recognized for stellar academic achievement.
