Upcoming Calit2 Forums: Greenovation & Food Justice

Greenovation Forum - The Smart Grid: Greener Energy Systems for Sustainable Societies

The smart grid promises to improve the electric power infrastructure by incorporating new information technology into the production and distribution of energy. Transforming the current centralized, producer-controlled electrical system into one that responds directly to the needs of the consumer, the smart grid will increase energy efficiency, reliability, and security. Featuring speakers from UC San Diego’s Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering, Viridity Energy, and Sempra Energy, March’s Greenovation Forum explores the innovative thinking and technologies that will bring about an energy revolution.

Join UCSD researchers, community gardeners, farmers, planners and others who are working together to improve food systems for environmental and public health. Professor Robert Gottlieb, Director of the Urban & Environmental Policy Institute at Occidental College (a social-change oriented institute focused on achieving a just, livable and democratic society) will set the stage for the Forum's Roundtable and Public Dialogue by introducing the concept of Food Justice. Help transform where, what, and how our food is grown, produced, transported, accessed and eaten on the path to a healthier and more just society.

The Forum is part of UCSD’s Green Open House and 50th Anniversary celebration and is being organized by the Global Action Research Center (The Global ARC), in partnership with UCSD’s Sustainability Solutions Institute, Urban Studies and Planning Program, Superfund Research Program, and The Center on Global Justice.
