Topic: Allow Joy Back into Your Life by Transforming Your Energy Burnout Though the Daily Benefits of Laughter

Date: Tuesday, April 26, 2011

Time: Noon - 1:00 p.m.

Location: The (Old) Student Center Expansion Bldg - 1st Floor; Dolores Huerta-Vera Cruz Room (behind Mandeville Center)

Laughing is a vital part of being happy in our lives, and it is something that is worthwhile, and we all should be making a conscious effort to do more of. We've heard it being repeated over and over again about how laughter promotes good health, emotional well-being and a better world.

It has been reported that children laugh on average 300 times a day compared to adults only laughing 15 times a day. Where did we lose the ability to laugh? Did we actually lose that ability? It may be that adults are experiencing different stress and burnout in their daily lives. That doesn't mean that we're all totally miserable as adults, but, it does indicate that as we grow up, we start to worry and concern ourselves with things, and unfortunately, we end up laughing less. But, that doesn't mean we can't be happier! Many people know that laughing is great, but how many of them know how laughter specifically benefits them, as unfortunately, unmanaged stress can become overwhelming and strain our relationships, health and love for life.

Come and hear Shawn throw a contemptuous, humorous spin and talk about how we all experience stress in our daily lives and her unique perspectives gained on her daunting experiences traveling to places such as Afghanistan, Bosnia, Kosovo, Korea, Japan and Guantanamo Bay to entertain our troops. Shawn will talk more about burnout, symptoms, risk factors and effects. We all experience stress differently, so it follows that stress relief may require a different approach for different people.
