President Obama’s Trip to Latin America: A Discussion between UCSD and FLACSO-Ecuador

The Center for Iberian & Latin American Studies invites you to an international event.

President Obama’s Trip to Latin America:

A Discussion between UCSD and FLACSO-Ecuador

Date: Thursday, April 14, 2011
Time: 10 am to 12 pm
Place: San Diego Supercomputer Center, Auditorium, UCSD

The US President justified the trip to Brazil, Chile and El Salvador in terms of better relations, economic opportunities and jobs for Americans. The selection of these three countries for the brief tour also demonstrates US interest in stable democracy and macroeconomic stability. But many in Latin America, on all sides of the political spectrum, remain skeptical that any real increased attention or benefit for the region will develop.

CILAS invites you to join us for a teleconference with faculty and students of FLACSO in Quito to discuss the trip and help build a relationship between our institutions. After introductory remarks by a panel of faculty and diplomats, the audience will be given an opportunity to join the discussion.
