MEET THURGOOD MARSHALL: A UCSD COMMUNITY FORUM
APRIL 27, 1993
7 - 9 P.M.
Price Center Ballroom
The Program will include welcome remarks by Provost Cecil Lytle,
introductory remarks by Professor Peter Irons, Director of the UCSD Law
and Society Program and a keynote address by Professor Janet
Cooper-Alexander of Stanford Law School, a former law clerk to
Justice Marshall. Professor Cooper-Alexander's remarks are
entitled "Remembering Thurgood Marshall." The evening's program
includes "May It Please the Court," a dramatic recreation of the
Supreme Court oral arguments in Brown versus the Board of Education and
"War Against the Constitution," the first public playing of the actual
oral argument made by Thurgood Marshall in the Little Rock school
desegregation case in 1958, accompanied by a slide-show of the Little
Rock events. The audience will also see excerpts from "Thurgood
Marshall: The Man" -- an award-winning television documentary on the
life and career of Justice Marshall.
As an adjunct to this program, Third College will hold an open house
viewing of the 30-minute video "Thurgood Marshall: Portrait of an
American Hero" in the Provost's Small Conference Room #134. The video
will be shown every hour on the hour from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.,
