ATTENTION: Employees Covered By Management and Professional
(MAP), Administrative and Professional Staff (A&PS) or Staff Personnel Program (SPP) Policies
SUBJECT: Proposed Revisions to SPP 430 and A&PS 156, Leave
Without Pay; and MAP 55, Personal Leave and Related Policies
SPP 430 and A&PS 156, Leave Without Pay and MAP 55, Personal Leave and related policies are proposed for revision to align the University's leave without pay policies with the leave entitlements mandated by the federal Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 and the California Family Rights Act of 1991, as amended October 4, 1993. These policies would replace the Interim Family and Medical Leave Policy which was issued September 13, 1993.
For eligible employees, the revised policies provide up to 12 workweeks of unpaid leave in any 12-month period when needed for the employee's serious health condition; or to care for the newly born, adopted, or foster care child; or to care for a child, parent, or spouse who has a serious health condition.
Proposed changes also reflect an amendment to the Government Code requiring the temporary transfer of a pregnant employee to a less hazardous or strenuous position upon request and with the advice of the employee's physician, if the transfer can be reasonably accommodated.
Key Administrators in each department are being sent a hardcopy issuance of actual proposed policy language revisions and are requested to make the document readily available to employees for review. A copy is also being placed in the Central Library. Affected employees are encouraged to review proposed changes and provide written comments to Judy Johnson, mail code 0922 or via electronic mail no later than Wednesday, February 16, 1994.
