OFFICE OF THE VICE CHANCELLOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS March 10, 1995 ALL ACADEMIC/INSTRUCTIONAL PERSONNEL (011) KEY ADMINISTRATORS/KEY SUPPORT STAFF (E-mail) SUBJECT: UCSD-SEARCH FOR THE DEAN, DIVISION OF SOCIAL SCIENCES This is to formally announce the initiation of the internal search for the Dean, Division of Social Sciences. The resignation of Dean Michael Rothschild to assume the position of Dean of the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University will be effective July 1, 1995, and it is hoped that his successor at UCSD will be appointed as soon as possible thereafter. I am pleased to announce that the following individuals have agreed to serve as members of the Search Committee: PROFESSOR ROBERT ENGLE, Economics DEAN PETER GOUREVITCH, IR/PS PROFESSOR RAM N GUTIRREZ, Ethnic Studies PROFESSOR GARY JACOBSON, Political Science PROFESSOR TIMOTHY McDANIEL, Sociology PROFESSOR MICHAEL MEEKER, Anthropology PROFESSOR CAROL PADDEN, Communication PROFESSOR DAVID SWINNEY, Psychology (CHAIR) ADRIENNE ANDERSON, Staff Association Representative Graduate Student Representative (TBA) Undergraduate Student Representative (TBA) At this time, applications and nominations are invited for the Dean position. The Dean of Social Sciences is the academic-administrative leader of the Division, comprised of nine academic departments and fourteen interdisciplinary programs. The future development and continued strength of the Social Sciences at UCSD will be the major responsibility of the Dean. Candidates for the position should be individuals with strong scholarly credentials, some administrative experience, and commitment to developing and sustaining academic programs of the highest quality.
