SUBJECT: LEGAL NOTICE RE: PROPOSITION 187 TO ALL FACULTY AND STAFF
INVOLVED IN ADMISSIONS AND REGISTRATION FUNCTIONS
California State Superior Court has directed the University of California to issue the following notice:
The Superior Court of the State of California has granted a preliminary injunction in the court case involving Proposition 187. Consequently, all officers and employees involved in admissions and registration functions are ordered by the court not to enforce sections 8 or 9 of the proposition which pertain to student admission or registration.
Specifically:
--Students and applicants will not be prohibited from attending or continuing in their enrollment based on the provisions of sections 8 or 9 of Proposition 187;
--Students and applicants will only be asked to verify their immigration status for the sole purpose of determining their residency status for tuition purposes; and --No information regarding any student or applicant will be transmitted to the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service, directly or indirectly, according to sections 8 or 9 of Proposition 187.

UCSD PLANS ARCHAEOLOGY PROGRAM IN ISRAEL A nine-week archaeology program in Israel, including work on
an excavation in the northern Negev Desert, is being planned for
this summer by the University of California, San Diego.
Under the sponsorship of UCSD's Summer Session program,
students will be introduced to excavation methods and techniques
of data collection. They will participate in excavations at the
new UCSD Nahal Tillah Regional Archaeology Project in the Negev
Desert from July 2 to Aug. 4. Both students and faculty will
live in a tent camp near the site. They will explore the beginnings of Egyptian influence on
social change during the Early Bronze Age, and the rise of
urbanism in the region around 3500-3000 B.C.
In the second portion of the program, from Aug. 7 to Aug.
30, students will be in Jerusalem. They will learn the basics of
archaeological research in the Nelson Gleuck School of Biblical
Archaeology at the Hebrew Union College. The school overlooks
the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem.
Students will earn four units of college credit at the Negev
dig and another four at the Hebrew Union College. The total fee
of $2,756 includes air fare, registration, tuition, and room and
board.
