SUBJECT: Appointment of Robert Dynes, Sr. Vice Chancellor-Academic Affairs
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Robert C. Dynes,
Professor of Physics at UCSD, as Senior Vice Chancellor-Academic
Affairs. Professor Dynes's appointment was approved today by
The Regents of the University of California. He will assume the
position on August 1, 1995.
Professor Dynes received his B.S. degree from the University of
Western Ontario, and his M.S. and Ph.D. from McMaster University. He was appointed Professor in the UCSD Department of Physics in
1991, following a distinguished scientific and administrative
career with AT&T Bell Laboratories. His current research
interests include condensed matter physics.
He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the
American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is an outstanding
educator and teacher at both the undergraduate and graduate level
and is generous in service to the campus, the University of
California, and his profession.
Professor Dynes enjoys the respect of the campus and scientific
community. He is an able and skilled administrator, and we are
fortunate he is willing to accept this important position.
