Vice Chancellor Caserio and I are pleased to announce that Professor
Paul W. Drake will assume the position of Dean of the Division of Social Sciences.
Professor Drake is a distinguished member of the Department of Political Science with adjunct appointments in the Department of History and the Graduate School of International Relations and Pacific Studies. He has been a member of the UCSD faculty since 1984 and is the first holder of the Institute of Americas Chair for Inter-American Affairs. He is an internationally recognized scholar of Latin America and played crucial roles in the development of UCSD's Center for Iberian and Latin American Studies and the Graduate School of International Relations and Pacific Studies. He served as Chair of the Department of Political Science from 1989-1993.
We are most fortunate to have Professor Drake as a member of our faculty and, now, as Dean of Social Sciences. Please join me in welcoming him to his new post which, pending Presidential review and appointment, will be effective July 1, 1995.
