OFFICE OF THE ASSISTANT VICE CHANCELLOR -
HUMAN RESOURCES
May 21, 1996
ALL AT UCSD
SUBJECT: Formal Review of the UCSD Implementing Procedures for the
Proposed Personnel Policies for Staff Members
During the Winter of 1995, the UCSD Human Resources Department conducted the formal review process for the Human Resources Management Initiatives (HRMI) Proposed Personnel Policies for Staff Members. These policies consolidated the current four-tier staff personnel system (Staff, A&PS, MAP and Executive Program) into a single personnel policy system. The comments received during that process were summarized and submitted to the Office of the President in December 1995.
In January 1996, Human Resources designed a strategy to develop implementing procedures to augment the Proposed Personnel Policies. The UCSD Implementing Procedures have been drafted and are now available for formal review by the UCSD community. During the formal review process, employees are invited and encouraged to review the Implementing Procedures and to forward comments to Human Resources.
The UCSD Implementing Procedures are available on the Office of Policy Development and Quality of Work/Life Home Page at: http://www-hr.ucsd. edu/online/qwl. Then go to the section entitled documents related to the UCSD Implementation of IMI and select UCSD Implementing Procedures Draft, May 1996. Hard copies of the Implementing Procedures are available at the libraries and in the Office of Policy Development and Quality of Work/Life Division of Human Resources.
Four Open Forum sessions have been scheduled to present and discuss the UCSD Implementing Procedures. The schedule is as follows:
* Wednesday, June 5, 1996 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Marine Facilities Conference Room
* Monday, June 10, 1996 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.
SIO/Hubbs Hall
* Tuesday, June 11, 1996 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Price Center Ballroom A
* Wednesday, June 12, 1996 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Medical Center/Auditorium
Focus groups, including representatives from each Vice Chancellor's area, as well as various other Human Resources-related committees, and representatives from staff associations, have been formed to review
the documents and provide substantive feedback.
All comments received during the formal review period will be evaluated, and as appropriate, incorporated into the final version of the Implementing Procedures. The final version of the new University of California Personnel Policies for Staff Members and the UCSD Implementing Procedures will be effective July 1, 1996.
Please send your comments by WEDNESDAY, JUNE 19, 1996 to Jonnie Craig at jcraig@ucsd.edu or extension 49659.
