SUBJECT: Search Committee for SIO Director
As you know, Edward A. Frieman will retire as Director of Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) late this summer. It is my pleasure at this time to announce the composition of the Search Committee for Director, Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
Professor J. Freeman Gilbert has graciously agreed to serve as Chair of the Search Committee. The membership is as follows:

The Committee will conduct a nationwide search for a candidate at the full-professor level, who should be scholar of distinction with an international reputation. A record of effective academic administration and leadership skills beneficial to SIO's mission are required.
The position carries the titles: Director of SIO, Vice Chancellor/Marine Sciences, and Professor (in a department at UCSD) reflecting leadership responsibilities at SIO, to the campus, and a strong record of scholarly achievement.
