SUBJECT: Performance Evaluation - UC Personnel Policies for Staff
Members, Professional Staff (Formerly A&PS) Employees
UC Personnel Policies for Staff Members, Policy 23/Performance Appraisal, states that the performance of each employee shall be appraised annually in writing by the employee's immediate supervisor. The evaluation is an opportunity to measure the employee's performance, foster professional development and career growth, support the determination of merit increases, and meet the external and internal demands for documentation of individual performance.
The performance evaluation process for Professional Staff (formerly Administrative and Professional Staff or A&PS) employees is a critical element in determining the salary increase recommendation for this category of employees who, effective July 1, 1996, are covered by the UC Personnel Policies for Staff Members. Therefore, managers and supervisors are encouraged to complete the evaluation process for all Professional Staff employees no later than June 30, 1997. Modifications to the performance evaluation time line have been made to correspond with the Annual Merit Review Cycle, which is now October.
Exclusively represented employees in the Technical Unit and Research Support Professional Unit continue to be covered by the provisions of the Staff Personnel and Administrative and Professional Programs, whichever is applicable, pending completion of labor contract negotiations.
The timetable for the October 1997 salary review process will be established once the 1997-98 budget is made final and the increase control figure is known. Based on past experiences, there may be a brief turnaround time frame for supervisors and departments to submit recommendations for salary increases for Professional Staff employees.
Currently the UCSD Performance Evaluation form, F02049, revised 11/86, is the appropriate form to use for completing the performance evaluation for Professional Staff employees.
