OFFICE OF THE ASSISTANT VICE CHANCELLOR - HUMAN RESOURCES August 28, 1997 PLEASE POST KEY ADMINISTRATORS/KEY SUPPORT STAFF SUBJECT: New Minimum Wage The federal minimum wage is increasing to $5.15 per hour effective September 1, 1997. At UCSD, the only payroll titles affected by this increase are the Assistant I (TC 4922) which has an existing salary range minimum of $5.00 per hour and the Assistant II (TC 4921) which has an existing salary range minimum of $5.09 per hour. Therefore, the minimum of both salary ranges will increase to $5.15 per hour effective September 1, 1997. Any students who are currently employed at a rate lower than $5.15 per hour will be centrally adjusted to the new minimum. No action is required on the part of department personnel to implement this change in PPS. However, the change is being processed too late to affect the PTR's for the pay period ending September 6, so departments must override the rate on PTR's for the period September 1 - September 6. Additionally, there may be by-agreement rates which have been negotiated reflecting an equivalent hourly rate that is less than the new minimum. Key Administrators are advised to review any by-agreement rates which have been negotiated to ensure they reflect a minimum compensation level of $5.15 per hour and make adjustments where necessary. Please share this information with supervisors and affected employees in your area and update your Title and Pay Plan to reflect the new range minimums of Assistant I and Assistant II. If you have any questions regarding the above, you may contact Judy Johnson at jjohnson@ucsd.edu, or at extension 40986. Rogers Davis Assistant Vice Chancellor - Human Resources |
