OFFICE OF THE DIRECTOR
CAREER SERVICES CENTER
September 12, 1997
KEY ADMINISTRATORS/KEY SUPPORT STAFF
SUBJECT: GRADUATE CAREERS COORDINATOR
It is a great pleasure to announce a new and returning member of the Career Services Center staff to members of the University community. We have been rejoined by Marcy Swain, who was on our staff a few years ago. Ms. Swain is now serving us in the role of Graduate Careers Coordinator. This new half-time position is dedicated to expanding and improving career-related services for the graduate students of UCSD.
When formerly here, Ms. Swain served as a Professional and Graduate School Advisor and then as our Employer Relations Coordinator. Since leaving our staff in 1994, she has worked as a Professional Services Consultant with Right Associates and as a Career Counselor/Job Developer at San Diego State University. In this latter capacity, she has been instrumentally involved with the Defense Conversion Center, assisting former defense industry employees find new careers. Ms. Swain has a Master of Education Counseling degree from the University of San Diego.
I am confident that Ms. Swain's efforts on behalf of graduate students will pay large dividends and significantly build upon the substantial success that our office had with its "Especially for Graduate Students" initiative taken over the past year. In that effort, we expanded services to graduate students and increased their usage of our office by 24%. This provides a sturdy foundation upon which to further improve our graduate student-related services.
Any member of the University community with an interest in the career-related needs of our graduate students is encouraged to contact Ms. Swain directly.
