SUBJECT: Appointment of Alan Paau, Director-Technology Transfer Office
I am very pleased to announce that Dr. Alan Paau has accepted the position of Director-Technology Transfer Office. Dr. Paau will replace Dr. Martin Rachmeler, who is retiring from UCSD in January.
Dr. Paau is currently Executive Director, Iowa State University Research Foundation, Inc., and Director, Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer at Iowa State University (ISU).
Dr. Paau has worked for over 22 years in research and development and management of science and technology. In addition to his primary appointments, he is an adjunct Professor in Microbiology, Immunology, and Preventive Medicine at ISU.
Before going to Iowa State in 1994, Dr. Paau served for two years as Associate Director of the Biotechnology Center at Ohio State University, and spent 11 years prior to that in industry, primarily in research and development. Dr. Paau received his doctorate in Biological Sciences from the University of Houston, and was a postdoctoral fellow with Dr. Winston Brill at the University of Wisconsin. Dr. Paau also holds an MBA from the Cardinal Stritch College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Dr. Paau enjoys an outstanding reputation in his field as a leader and innovative problem-solver. His extensive knowledge and experience will serve us well in the coming years.
Alan will join our staff on January 2, 1998. Please join me in welcoming Alan to his new position and expressing our thanks to Martin for his many contributions to the campus.
