SUBJECT: Search for Title IX/Sexual Harassment Officer
Reviews of the Office of Sexual Harassment Prevention and Policy (OSHPP) conducted by both on-campus and off-campus teams have recommended that the Office of Sexual Harassment Prevention & Policy report directly to the Chancellor=s Office, and that the Director of this office be given the title of Title IX/Sexual Harassment Officer. Accordingly, I am authorizing a search for a new Title IX/Sexual Harassment Officer who will upon appointment report directly to Assistant Chancellor Linda Williams.
The Title IX/Sexual Harassment Officer will have responsibility for the education and training of UCSD faculty, staff and students concerning sexual harassment compliance, for investigating formal complaints of sexual harassment and for managing the Office of Sexual Harassment Prevention and Policy. He or she will also have joint responsibility with other campus Title IX officers for investigation of complaints on gender discrimination.
The following have been appointed to the search committee for the new Title IX/Sexual Harassment Officer:
Professor Deborah Wingard, Chair - Family & Preventive Medicine
Nicholas Aguilar - Student Affairs
Jennefer Collins - Academic Affairs
Rogers Davis - Business Affairs
Tesh Khullar - Associated Students
Carol Lewin - Medical Center
Anthony Navarrete - Graduate Student Association
Ann Parode - Campus Counsel
Professor Lynne Talley - SIO
This committee will convene shortly to review applications and recommend the top two candidates for further consideration to the Chancellor=s Office no later than March 27, 1998. We hope to appoint a person to this position shortly thereafter.
We appreciate your patience and assistance during this interim period.
Robert C. Dynes
Chancellor
