SUBJECT: Appointment of Director, Physical Plant Services
I am delighted to announce that Mort Shayegan has been appointed to the position of Director, Physical Plant Services, effective March 1, 1998.
Mort will be responsible for leading all of the Physical Plant Service areas including: Engineering Operations, Utility Services, Project Management, Work Service Center, Building Services, Building aintenance, Grounds & Landscape Services, Garage & Fleet Services.
Mort holds a masters degree in Industrial & Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He brings more than 30 years of management and leadership experience in the fields of engineering and facilities management, operations and maintenance to UC San Diego.
Mort has been with the University for thirteen years as the Director for Engineering Services responsible for directing and managing all essential engineering service areas. Prior to UC San Diego, Mort worked for the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor as Manager of Utilities and Energy Systems where he was responsible for their central cogeneration plant, utilities production and distribution.
Mort served as the primary architect and engineer for UC San Diego's utility infrastructure development. He provided astute guidance to the campus during its rapid growth and development of the campus physical plant facility. For the past decade, UC San Diego has enjoyed reliable and sufficient utility services.
Already recognized in the facilities management profession as an outstanding engineer, I am confident that Mort will quickly become recognized on campus for his many outstanding management and leadership capabilities.
