OFFICE OF THE CHANCELLOR May 14, 1998 ALL AT UCSD SUBJECT: 1998 School Clean-up - San Diego Cares About Schools We've all heard about the problems in California's K-12 classrooms and often don't know where to begin. I invite you to spend part of Saturday, June 6, 1998 making a real difference in San Diego's schools. On June 6th, between 9:00 a.m. and 1 p.m. UCSD will field a team of volunteers to participate in the "San Diego Cares About Schools" 1998 School Clean-up. UCSD teams at Crawford High School and Horace Mann Middle School will be part of an effort 10,000 individuals strong at 167 public schools sweeping, mopping, landscaping and cleaning windows, desks, and sinks. Imagine how surprised students will be to return to a sparkling clean school on Monday. This effort is organized under the auspices of the Greater San Diego Chamber of Commerce Business Roundtable for Education and San Diego Cares, Inc. and sponsored by Sandicast, Wells Fargo Bank, News Radio 600 KOGO and Cox Cable. It also enjoys the endorsement of School Board President Ron Ottinger, Superintendent Alan Bersin, the San Diego Teacher's Association, the California School Employees Association and the San Diego Labor Council. Businesses and organizations all over San Diego are participating, and this is yet another opportunity for UCSD faculty, staff and students to demonstrate the university's commitment to education. Lunch is not provided, however, bottled water will be available. Remember to dress accordingly. If you would like to participate, please contact Sara Steinhoffer, UCSD Governmental and Community Relations at 822-0142 before May 29. Robert C. Dynes Chancellor |
