SAN DIEGO: OFFICE OF THE CHANCELLOR
August 10, 1998
ALL AT UCSD (INCLUDING UCSD MEDICAL CENTERS)
SUBJECT: Diversity Council
On June 1, 1998, in my address to the UCSD community on the importance of
diversity issues for our campus, I issued a 10-Point Diversity Action Plan.
To strengthen the impact and cohesiveness of UCSD's diversity efforts, the
plan includes the creation of a UCSD Diversity Council, composed of
faculty, students, and staff.
In determining how to structure the Diversity Council, which will oversee a
broad agenda of diversity-related activities, I am eager to obtain as much
input from the campus community as possible. Already I have heard from
deans and department chairs. I now welcome your comments on the following
questions:
What criteria should be used in the selection of members for the Diversity Council?
How large do you think the Council should be?
What issues do you think the Council should address immediately?	In addition, please forward the names of individuals that you feel would be
well informed on issues of diversity and willing to commit the time
necessary to serve on the Diversity Council.
Since I intend to appoint the Diversity Council early in the fall quarter,
your comments will be most useful if I receive them by Tuesday, September
8, 1998. Please submit your comments and recommendations to: Chancellor Robert C. Dynes

Thank you very much for your participation and input in this important
process.
