CHANCELLOR'S CHALLENGE 5K RUN/WALK
PLANNING COMMITTEE
October 9, 1998
ALL AT UCSD
SUBJECT: Chancellor's Challenge 5K Run/Walk
Chancellor Robert Dynes will kick off Homecoming Weekend by leading the
third annual Chancellor's Challenge 5-K Run/Walk for Scholars on Friday,
October 23, running the UCSD cross-country course to raise scholarship
support for our students. We invite all staff, faculty, students,
alumni and friends in the community to join us for this exciting event.
Where and When?
The Chancellor's Challenge starts and ends on the North Campus Field,
adjacent to RIMAC. Check-in begins at 10:30 a.m. The run/walk starts
at noon with lunch following. What's the Challenge?
The Chancellor will personally donate $5 to UCSD undergraduate
scholarships for every person who enters the race and an additional $5
for every person who beats him. (He and Event Chairman Charlie Robins
also have agreed to donate $30,000 and $10,000, respectively, to match
event sponsorships.)
You're Not a Runner? No Problem
The Chancellor's Challenge is a "walk" as much as it is a "run." You do
not need to be a runner or have athletic abilities to participate. You
don't even need to cross the finish line. The point is to participate
to the best of your abilities, have fun and help support UCSD's
outstanding students.
Register Now and Save $
Advance registration for faculty and staff is $6 ($5 for students). The
entry fee increases to $10 on the day of the event. So get your entry
form in now and save money! Your entry fee includes:
*	5-K Run/Walk with the Chancellor.
*	Student-designed Chancellor's Challenge T-shirt.
*	Lunch and awards program.
*	Fresh air and (hopefully) sunshine in the middle of a
work day.
And now you can actually "enroll through payroll" -- register for the
event (and make an additional tax-deductible donation to scholarships)
via payroll deduction. Please request entry forms and payroll deduction forms by e-mail:
bdaly@ucsd.edu. You may also call x21537 to request these forms or
further information.
We hope you can join Chancellor Dynes, the students and the rest of our
campus family for a great run and lots of fun on October 23!
