SUBJECT:  Updated Notice to Employees When a Job Injury Occurs

The attached notice contains UPDATED EMERGENCY telephone numbers and is required BY LAW to be posted "in a conspicuous location frequented by employees and where such notice can be easily read by employees during the course of the workday." Please post this revised notice on your department bulletin boards, including any laboratories, clinics, or remote locations within your organizational structure that may have their own employee bulletin boards.

PLEASE REMEMBER - WHEN AN EMPLOYEE HAS A WORK-RELATED INJURY:

The injured employee must notify the Workers' Compensation Office of the injury (534-4785 or 822-2979 or 534-2454). There is voice mail available at each number to take messages at all hours including weekends and holidays.

The injured employee must also notify their supervisor of the injury and keep the department apprised of their status.

If the injured employee is unable to report the injury to the Workers' Compensation Office, the employee's supervisor must call and report the details of the injury.

The injured employee should seek initial medical treatment at the Thornton ER or the Medical Center ER in Hillcrest. Both facilities are open 24 hours a day/7 days a week. Maps to both facilities are located in the UCSD directory.

The Workers' Compensation Office provides injury reports and claim forms to the injured employee. If departments still have old forms on file, please destroy them.

The UCSD Workers' Compensation Program is interested in providing continuing education to all departments regarding the various benefits, policies and procedures involved with work-related injuries.
