SUBJECT:  UCSD Personal Floating Holiday

This Notice is provided to request comments regarding the University of California, San Diego's (UCSD) proposal to designate its Spring Administrative Holiday to a Personal Floating Holiday.

A floating holiday is a personal day off with pay taken at the discretion of the employee with supervisory approval. The personal day is accrued at the beginning of the calendar year, must be taken prior to the end of the same calendar year in a single absence, and cannot be rolled-over to the next calendar year.

Designating the UCSD Spring Administrative Holiday to a Personal Floating Holiday would provide UCSD employees the flexibility of scheduling time off that is personally meaningful. Additionally, it would enhance outreach and recruitment by providing an additional incentive, increase UCSD's competitiveness in the employment arena, strengthen flexible work scheduling, and demonstrate the University's valuing quality of work/life.

Comments regarding this proposed change should be submitted by December 3, 1999, to Jonnie Craig-Winston, Human Resources Department Director of Policy Development and Quality of Work/Life, at jcraig@ucsd.edu or (858) 534-9659.
