SUBJECT:  Faculty Position for UC in DC Internship Program in
Washington, D.C. for the 2000-01 Academic Year

The campus' UC in DC internship program announces an opening for its Washington-based UCSD faculty/director position for the 2000/01 academic year. UCDC is similar to education abroad programs. It offers a full program of classes and internships, allowing students to work in Washington, D.C. for a quarter while attending classes offered by UC faculty from each of the participating campuses. This fall UCSD enters its third year of participation in this UC program. Presently, about 20 UCSD students attend each quarter. For more information, visit the program's web site:

The position is open to UCSD faculty from all disciplines and ranks. Duties involve teaching a seminar each quarter, and working with faculty from the other campuses in coordinating an integrated curriculum in Washington. The directors from each campus draw their normal salaries, while their departmental courses at UCSD are covered by temporary teaching funds. They also receive a small travel allowance. Staff and a TA are supplied at UCDC. The outgoing Director for UCSD is Sam Popkin, Professor of Political Science. For more information, contact Professor Sam Kernell (skernell@ucsd.edu), Political Science Department, Chair of UCSD's UCDC Advisory Committee. To apply, send a letter of interest and curriculum vita (email attachments are encouraged) to Professor Kernell. Deadline: December 6, 1999 or until filled. The new UCSD Director will be announced as early as possible in 2000.
