ALL ACADEMICS AT UCSD

SUBJECT:  White Mountain Research Station (WMRS)
                     Faculty Research Grants

The White Mountain Research Station (WMRS) offers a unique group of laboratories and access to sites for research in biological, earth, medical, physical, and space sciences, archaeology and anthropology. This program provides $15,000 per year for research by UC faculty requiring multi-year use of WMRS facilities. Residency of the Principal Investigator is required at the Station for some part of the program.

Funds may be used (1) to buy release time from teaching for research, (2) summer salary for faculty with 9-month appointments, (3) support of postdoctoral fellows collaborating on a faculty member's research program, (4) research equipment, supplies, and costs to obtain pilot results for external funding proposals, and (5) matching funds for external funding. Proposals for other creative uses will also be considered.

Criteria for selection include (1) scientific excellence of the research program, (2) contribution of the program to the academic and intellectual environment at WMRS and (3) the potential for obtaining additional external funding for the program. Long-term research programs are especially encouraged.

Awards will be made for two years, with the possibility of renewal for two additional years. The deadline for completed applications is February 29, 2000. For more details and application information, please see our website at http://www.wmrs.edu.
