SUBJECT: Community Safety Alert - Update (Wallet thefts)
During the last six weeks, more than twenty-five (25) wallet thefts have occurred around the main campus. (See locations below) Each theft occurred during the workweek during normal business hours. The offender(s) simply entered an unlocked and unattended office/laboratory and removed the wallet from a purse or backpack. Each theft went undetected until the owner, some time later attempted to retrieve his/her wallet.
Since February 18, 2000 and our last COMMUNITY SAFETY ALERT reference this topic, UCSD community members have reported several incidents involving suspicious individuals. However, to date, we have not identified those responsible for these thefts. Please continue to be on the lookout and immediately report any suspicious activity. Remember, the person(s) responsible for these thefts goes to great length to disguise his/her presence and purpose for being in your building.
Anyone having information regarding these wallet thefts is asked to call the UCSD Police Department Detective Bureau at 534-4359.Maudie Bobbitt
