Subject:  All-Campus Commencement Cancellation

I regret to announce that Dr. Maya Angelou has withdrawn as our speaker for the all-campus commencement scheduled for June 17, 2000, due to impending surgery. While we have considered the possibility of pursuing another speaker, it is all too apparent there is not enough time to secure a worthy substitute.

I congratulate the students and staff who have worked so hard to organize and prepare for this event, and I share their disappointment. The separate college commencements will continue June 17-18, and I am confident they will provide our graduates with the proper recognition and acknowledgement of their achievements.
