SUBJECT:  Proposed UCSD Web Policy

The UCSD Electronic Information Task Force, composed of faculty, staff, and student representatives nominated by the Academic Senate and campus administrators, was charged with the task of developing a Web policy for the University of California, San Diego. In January, the Task Force distributed a draft of this policy to the campus for comment. We are grateful to our many campus colleagues who provided us with input, including those in the Anthropology, Communication, and History Departments; Academic Computing Services; Administrative Records; and Business and Financial Services.

The proposed policy, incorporating much of the input we received between January and March, is now available for campus comment on the World Wide Web at:

            http://www.ucsd.edu/eitf/webpolicy.html

By way of reminder, the policy is intended to clarify the applicability of law and of University policy to UCSD Web sites. The policy covers:

            - Procedures for Establishing a Web Account

            - Registration as an Official UCSD Web Site

            - UCSD Web Sites Not Registered as Official Sites

            - Operational Requirements and Regulations

            - Service Restrictions

            - Recourse for Service Restriction Actions Taken

Comments on the policy may be directed to: webmaster@ucsd.edu through August 31. The revised policy, along with any comments received, will be forwarded in early September to the Senior Vice Chancellor - Academic Affairs for her consideration.
