Subject:  Staff Retention and Support Steering Committee

As UCSD faces a decade of unprecedented growth, an increasingly complex regulatory environment, and a highly competitive labor market, we will rely on our staff more than ever to support and sustain the excellence of UCSD's teaching, research, and patient care activities.

In order for the campus to thrive during this period of rapid change, we must be sure to provide our staff with the tools, resources, processes, and work environment that will allow them to be successful in carrying out their duties.

In an effort to achieve this goal, I have appointed a Staff Retention and Support Steering Committee (SRSSC) charged with guiding and monitoring the activities of a number of committees, teams, and organizations that will be reviewing our processes and systems for supporting our staff.

I have asked Vice Chancellor Steve Relyea and Assistant Chancellor Linda Williams to co-chair this Steering Committee, which consists of the following members:

UCSD has in only 40 years become one of the nation's premier research universities. Our staff has played a major role in this achievement. Please join me as we develop the necessary vehicles to allow us to continue to build upon our success.
