KEY ADMINISTRATORS / KEY SUPPORT STAFF SUBJECT: CILAS Director Search Applications and nominations are invited for the position of Director of the Center for Iberian and Latin American Studies (CILAS). CILAS is an organized research unit with an international reputation as an outstanding center of research and teaching in Latin American Studies. CILAS coordinates and promotes Latin American and Iberian research and service activities for faculty and students in all departments at the University. It sponsors multidisciplinary colloquia, conferences, projects, and publications, hosts visiting scholars, and awards grants and fellowships each year to promising graduate students. The CILAS Director also serve as Director of the Latin American Studies instructional programs, which consist of the M.A. program and the undergraduate major and minor. Candidates must hold full-time, tenured UCSD faculty appointments. The Search Committee is seeking candidates with distinguished academic backgrounds who have demonstrated leadership. The CILAS Director will be appointed effective September 2001, for a five-year term, renewable for a second five-year term following appropriate review. The Search Committee (membership listed below) will begin reviewing nominations and applications on May 21, 2001, and will continue until the position is filled.
