SUBJECT:  Appointment of Dean, IR/PS

I am pleased to announce that the decanal search has concluded, and that Peter Cowhey will serve as the next Dean of the Graduate School of International Relations & Pacific Studies, subject to approval by the Regents. Due to academic and administrative obligations, Peter's appointment will be effective next summer (July 1, 2002). Andrew MacIntyre has agreed to serve as Interim Dean from August 1, 2001 until July 1, 2002, and Steph Haggard will continue as Interim Dean through the end of this July.

I very much appreciate the role that each of these individuals has agreed to play in IR/PS, and thank the Search Committee for their efforts in facilitating this enormously positive outcome.
