SUBJECT: Cesar Chavez Holiday
The University of California Office of the President (UCOP) has indicated to all UC locations the expectation to adopt an annual holiday to commemorate the contributions and life of Cesar Chavez. This recognition is in accordance with California Senate Bill 984, which was passed on August 21, 2000.
Accordingly, our decision is to implement the celebration of Cesar Chavez Holiday on the last Friday of March each year, commencing on Friday, March 29, 2002. As such, this designated holiday will be instituted in lieu of the UCSD Personal Floating Holiday, which is rescinded upon each individual's appropriate use of that entitlement for calendar year 2001.
The procedures for UCSD operations, including closure as well as the Academic Calendar will be the same as those applicable to the celebration of any other official UC holiday. Questions in this regard may be directed to the appropriate offices. General questions regarding this Notice may be directed to Jonnie Craig-Winston, at firstname.lastname@example.org or (858) 534-8037.
