SUBJECT:  Construction Alert: East Campus - Closure of Medical Center
                     Drive Intersection

Beginning on Sunday, March 3, 2002 and continuing through Thursday, June 20, 2002, the City of San Diego will be upgrading the UCSD main sewerline. In order to install larger sewer pipe and additional manholes, contractors will be tunneling under Interstate 5 from the VA Hospital to the intersection of Medical Center Drives West and South. This intersection will be closed throughout this period of time to allow tunnel access for the contractors. The intersection is part of the recently completed road south of Parking Lot P753; refer to the campus map website http://www.ucsd.edu/map/ucsdmap.pdf and view the East Campus. Please note that these street names are not yet labeled on the campus map.

Vehicular access to Thornton Hospital and Parking Lots P751, 752 and 753 shall be via Campus Point Drive and will not be affected. Hospital deliveries will be rerouted through Health Sciences Drive to the appropriate service yards.
