SUBJECT:  Appointment of Campus Recreation Director

I am pleased to announce that Mr. David Koch has accepted the position of Campus Recreation Director. Mr. Koch's most recent position was at the University of Southern California where he was the Senior Associate Director of Recreational Sports.

Mr. Koch received his Bachelor of Arts in Social Ecology in 1972 at the University of California, Irvine. In 1977, he earned his Master of Science degree in Recreation Administration at California State University, Long Beach. David Koch has been an active leader in the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) where he has held various leadership positions including California State Director, Chair of the Affirmative Action Committee, and Vice President of the Region VI Executive Committee. His membership on various NIRSA committees include the NIRSA Foundation Board of Directors and the Finance Committee.

While on staff with the Division of Student Affairs at USC, Mr. Koch served on numerous committees, including the Student Affairs Staff Development Committee, Student Affairs Alcohol and Drug Policy Revision Committee, and the Task Force on Native American Student Services Assessment. Mr. Koch served as a mentor in the Emerging Leader program and in the Center for Black Cultural and Student Affairs. Mr. Koch was also appointed to the Faculty Fellows Program and was a Facility Liaison to the 1984 Olympic Organizing Committee.

Mr. Koch's new appointment is effective April 1, 2002. Please join me in welcoming him to UCSD.
