SUBJECT:  Search for Associate Dean of Graduate Studies

Applications and nominations are invited for a new position of Associate Dean of Graduate Studies in the Office of Graduate Studies and Research.

The Associate Dean of Graduate Studies will have responsibility for several graduate education functions, such as:

Overseeing the graduate program review process
Assisting faculty with the development of new graduate degree proposals
Overseeing graduate outreach and admissions
Developing extramural fellowship strategies

Qualifications for the Associate Dean include tenured UCSD professor status; ability to administer UCSD policies and programs fairly while maintaining high standards; and skills to communicate and interact effectively with faculty, graduate students, and administrators. The appointment will be 33% time for nine months plus a stipend of $200 per month and one ninth summer salary. The initial term will be for three years and will be renewable following review.

Professors Darwin Berg (chair), Patricia Churchland, and Donald Tuzin, and OGSR staff member Mary Allen will serve as the Search Committee. The Search Committee will begin reviewing nominations and applications on May 28, 2002, and will continue its review until the position is filled.
