SUBJECT:  Approved Revisions to UCSD Implementing Procedure 30/Salary

The proposed revisions to UCSD Implementing Procedure 30/Salary, as announced in a campus notice dated April 17, 2002, have been approved effective July 1, 2002. The revisions were made in order to increase salary-setting flexibility, further decentralize equity increase authority and contribute to UCSD's recruitment and retention experience. This procedure only affects employees covered by the Personnel Policies for Staff Members. It does not apply to exclusively-represented employees covered by collective bargaining agreements.

Section III G(3)/Lateral Transfer was revised to reflect that Vice Chancellors now have authority to approve salary increases upon lateral transfer in exceptional situations, such as internal inequity, significant increase in responsibility, and external market factors. This authority will not be subject to re-delegation to departments.

Section III (H)/Equity Increases was modified to reflect that Vice Chancellors now have the authority to approve equity increases up to the salary range maximum, with the continued ability to re-delegate authority for granting equity increases up to the salary range midpoint.

"UCSD Salary Setting Guidelines for Non-Exclusively Represented Employees" previously referenced on the Compensation Main Menu has been eliminated. The information is now incorporated into the revised Implementing Procedure 30/Salary.

The revised procedure may be viewed electronically at http://www-hr.ucsd.edu/~qwl/policies/pdf/sp30.pdf

Key Administrators are requested to notify affected employees in their areas regarding these changes. Campus employees with questions regarding the revised procedure may contact Judy Johnson, Compensation Manager, at jjohnson@ucsd.edu or by telephone at (858) 534-0986. Healthcare employees may direct questions to Ann Skinner, Director of Human Resources-Healthcare Human Resources, at askinner@ucsd.edu or AMR1 through SYSM or by telephone at (619) 543-7622.

It should be noted that these revisions effectively implement one of the Staff Retention and Support Steering Committee's initiatives.
