BUSINESS AND FINANCIAL SERVICES Equipment Management Division October 16, 2002
SUBJECT: Equipment Management Physical Inventories Recently, the campus Equipment Management process was the subject of a federal audit conducted by representatives of the Office of Naval Research (ONR). The audit was performed by ONR to ensure that our property systems complied with all federal regulations. While UCSD's property system received favorable results overall, the audit found that campus departments were generally deficient in submitting physical inventories as required by federal regulations and requested by Equipment Management. The auditors reiterated the need for departments to perform timely and accurate inventories of all property in their respective departments as an important responsibility.
To continue our eligibility to receive federal awards, we need to
improve the timely submission of physical inventories. All Department
Chairs, Principal Investigators and Management Service Officers are
asked to ensure that action is taken to make this effort a higher
