SUBJECT:  UCSD Veterans Association Annual Recognition Ceremony

I am pleased to announce and encourage faculty, staff and students to participate in the Third Annual UCSD Veterans Association Recognition Ceremony. This year's Ceremony is dedicated to all of the members of the Armed Forces who serve or have served our country.

The Recognition Ceremony will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2002 from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the UCSD Price Center Theatre. Light refreshments will be served at 11:30 a.m.

Honored guests will include Rear Admiral Jose Luis Betancourt, Commander, United States Navy, Navy Region Southwest; San Diego Chief of Police, David Bejarano; and Al Hilde, UCSD Veteran of the Year.

To support the Veterans Association Recognition Ceremony, I am approving one-hour of administrative leave with pay so that UCSD employees may attend the event. Therefore, supervisors are encouraged to grant employees, upon request, one hour of administrative leave to attend the Ceremony when the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required duties.
