CAMPUS NOTICE

OFFICE OF THE CHANCELLOR

February 18, 2003

ALL ACADEMICS AND STAFF AT UCSD (Including UCSD Healthcare)

SUBJECT:  2003 United Way/Combined Health Agency Drive at UCSD
                     "Choose to Care"

Please join me in supporting the UCSD United Way/CHAD Campaign. This year our theme is, "Choose to Care." I believe this theme is appropriate because each of us has the opportunity presented to us to care for the needs of the San Diego community through a contribution to UCSD's United Way/CHAD Campaign.

For many years, United Way/CHAD of San Diego has helped locally based agencies distribute funds and other resources to the people of San Diego County. Supporting United Way/CHAD particularly this year, offers us the opportunity to help sustain these agencies during difficult budget circumstances and allows us to make a difference in the lives of our neighbors.

Your gift will help support community programs to enhance senior independence, develop diverse communities, empower persons with disabilities, improve health and wellness, protect the environment, strengthen families in crisis and invest in children and youth.

The UCSD United Way/CHAD 2003 Campaign commenced on Friday, February 14th and will run through Monday, March 17th. All UCSD faculty and staff will receive information packages through interoffice mail. Additionally, you are invited to visit the UCSD United Way/CHAD website at:

http://blink.ucsd.edu/go/unitedway

The UCSD campaign will also feature a booth at the Associated Students UCSD Cares event from Monday, February 24th through Friday, February 28th on Library Walk, from 11:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. During these five days, the campaign will sponsor a book fair at this event, where books and other gifts will be available for purchase. A percentage of the revenue from this effort will accrue to the UCSD Campaign.

I am most proud of our campus community and I applaud those of you who volunteer time, energy and financial resources to this venture. Each of us is critical to the success of UCSD's efforts to be an active member of the San Diego community.
