SUBJECT:  CHINA TRIP, SUMMER 2003

GO TO CHINA this summer with other UCSD and UC staff, faculty and students. Visit Beijing, the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace. Climb the Great Wall. You will also attend a magnificent ceremony to celebrate good will between our two countries in a gesture of international educational communication. During the summers of 2001 and 2002, some 240 students, staff, and faculty from UCSD participated in this event and experienced one of the most exciting and wonderful times of their lives. UC staff and students from Irvine, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Davis, Los Angeles, Berkeley and the Office of the President also attended. UCSD staff/faculty and students have again been invited to participate in the "Silk Road to the Future" special event sponsored by The Legends of China Foundation, which is underwriting a significant part of each participant's expenses.

This year, the offer has just been opened to faculty and staff. All remaining "slots" are available on a first-come, first-served basis. You may either attend the Main [Beijing only] Trip (July 9-15) at a cost of $1,094 OR take the Main Trip plus an additional South China "Side Trip" (July 10-20) to Shanghai, Hangzhou, Suzhou, and Zhouzhuang for a cost of $1591. Included is round-trip airfare (from LAX), 4/5-star hotels, all meals, ground transportation, tour guides, historical site tickets and full travel insurance. (Tips and Chinese government airport departure fees are not included.)

For application forms or additional information, contact the UCSD Trip Coordinator, Loren Thompson, at lthompson@ucsd.edu or 534-3544. All Trip Registration forms must be obtained through this UCSD contact. Applications and full payment are due by March 15, 2003, to The Legends of China LA office. As only 500 students and faculty from U.S. universities may attend, application forms should be submitted as soon as possible. Spouses may also take part, as may children who are attending a college/university. Passports & visas are required by the time of departure.

The Silk Road to the Future event is sponsored by The Legends of China Foundation, a non-profit cultural organization based in Los Angeles and Beijing, China, in cooperation with UCSD and other UC campuses.
