SUBJECT:  UCSD Shipping Procedures (Domestic, Foreign and
Hazardous Goods)

UCSD Shipping provides daily service for domestic and foreign shipments, advises on U.S. Customs documentation for import and export shipments, and processes hazardous shipments. New shipping procedures have been added to the Blink Buying Tab and can be viewed at Shipping Overview http://blink.ucsd.edu/go/shipping. Please review these procedures before making shipments to ensure compliance.

UCSD conforms to strict government regulations when transporting hazardous materials. All outgoing shipments of infectious substances, diagnostic specimens, and other hazardous materials must be processed by a UCSD Shipping Department hazardous material certified employee. Failure to comply with international and federal transportation regulations when shipping hazardous materials can result in civil penalties of $27,500 per occurrence and in criminal penalties including five years imprisonment. Please visit the Blink site, How to Ship Hazardous Materials at http://blink.ucsd.edu/go/shiphazmat to review procedures before making a hazardous materials shipment.

If you are unclear if your item is considered hazardous after reviewing the Blink web site, please contact Tom Pugh, Shipping Coordinator, certified hazardous material shipper, at (858) 536-3225 x244 or tpugh@ucsd.edu.
