SUBJECT: Proposal to Improve UC Health Sciences Faculty Retirement
Benefits
The UC Office of the President (UCOP) convened a task force to evaluate the competitiveness of UC health sciences faculty retirement benefits and to report its recommendations to senior management. Based on concerns expressed by health sciences faculty and survey results from leading academic institutions, the task force has recommended three options for improving UC health sciences retirement benefits. This notice is provided to invite your review and comments on the task force report and proposed options, which are accessible at:

If one of the options described in the task force report is ultimately adopted, costs for improving health sciences retirement benefits would be either attributable to the University of California Retirement Plan (UCRP) or to other fund sources, such as grants or clinical income. For as long as UCRP remains non-contributory, there would be no direct costs to campuses or faculty for providing additional benefits under UCRP. However, when contributions to UCRP resume, the contributions for any improved benefits attributable to UCRP would also need to be paid.
